Practicalities Other Special Needs Practicalities

Always tell any carrier and/or tour operator about the child's condition and ask what they can do to help. Many companies which are not specialists can still arrange things to make life easier for you, especially if you can detail for them exactly what that would be.

If you need to take significant amounts of medical equipment it would be wise to get a letter of explanation from your GP and to forewarn both the operator and the airline in advance and if possible get their acceptance in writing before departure. These documents can then be carried with the equipment should anyone raise objections at any stage, including customs and security checkers, particularly for example if you need to take the equipment as hand luggage.

If you use a wheelchair it is also a god idea to know the dimensions and check with the airline about the possibility of using the chair on board if it is foldable.

Try also to find an operator which can provide details of a reliable English-speaking doctor in advance, and provide accommodation which is close to him or her.
