All children and parents build up their own routines but a change of place and of timetable can upset this. The golden rule is, if yours need routine, do your best to stick to it.

If the children have naps at home, try to timetable something similar into the day. Even if they don't and it's hot in the middle of the day, think of introducing a family siesta which will enable everyone to eat together in the cool of the evening.

Then, with luck, the children will be tired enough to sleep when you do all go to bed at a more adult hour and might even sleep for longer in the morning. Well you can hope.

All babies and children go through changes in their routine. Different experts have different theories about when these changes are likely to occur.

If you have a childcare book you use which you feel has a good handle on the pattern your child is following, it might be helpful to avoid planning a holiday for a period when it indicates that a change in sleeping patterns is likely. This is all very vague however and a relaxed approach is best.
