Sedation

Practicalities Getting There General Sedation

This is sometimes considered desirable for long journeys, particularly on board planes where a child may irritate the life out of fellow passengers. A classic is to dose the child up on Calpol or something similar.

However, sedatives commonly have the side effect of making the child grizzly or very woozy on waking, which makes the next phase even more difficult. Sometimes the product simply makes the child more tired, with attendant problems, but not actually fall asleep, again, worsening rather than improving the situation.

Paradoxically, it seems the more likely your child is to be difficult, the less likely it is that sedation will have the desired effect but rather the contrary.
